How To Get Started

How To Get Started

Start Building Your Collections

My Library - The Stuff You Own

The easiest way to get started with MagicLibrary.org is to create your personal collection of magic. Browse through the editions to find books you own, then click the little bookmark icon to Add To Your Library. This will add them to your library, found under the My Collections menu option.

When you collect an edition it will ask for a location in your library. This is especially helpful to locate those small booklets by noting it is in "Box #3". You can add any reminder note you wish, or leave it blank.

Your personal collection is private be default. Nobody can see what you have collected. However, if you like, you can make any of your collections publicly visible on your account profile. This is a great way to show (or brag to) your magic pals about what you've got on the shelf.

My Wishlist - The Stuff You Want

Similarly, you can click the gift box icon to add any edition to My Wishlist. This is a way to keep an eye on those titles for which you are hunting, and may be helpful to prioritize your next acquisition. Again, your wishlist is private but you can share it publicly and hope for anonymous benefactors to send you some surprise gifts.

Custom Collections - Your Research Folders

You can also add editions to custom collections using the folder icon. A panel will open up to add to an existing collection or create a new one.

Custom Collections also can gather Items (individual tricks, routines, etc.) from within books. You'll find that folder icon on the tables of contents, or on individual Item pages.

There's no limit to your custom collections. Keep a list of "Cards Across Routines" or start building "My New Mentalism Show".

Next, Add New Titles

I'm sure you will quickly find a book on your shelf which is not yet catalogued in MagicLibrary.org. It won't be long before you're ready to add new titles to the library.

Note: Brand new accounts are limited in what they can do. (to prevent spam) Check your Account Profile page for information about your current permission levels.

You can help grow our archive. Pull the book off the shelf, then go to Add Title in the menu. Enter the title to make sure it doesn't already exist, and if not follow the steps to fill in the information.

Once you've created the edition, you can continue the work of adding in the table of contents. There's no obligation to do the whole thing. Every little bit helps. Hopefully as you use MagicLibrary.org, and read the books, you'll find places to contribute information to our archive.

We're just getting started, too!

MagicLibrary.org is a very new project, and there's lots on our wishlist as well. Things like library lending, buy-and-sell listings, and plenty more. Plus, our archive will be growing by the day. Don't be a stranger, get involved! Keep in touch with us about your experience on the website, and how we can improve.
